Step 13 : Upgrade SRM

13.1: Upgrade the SRM server software first and once that has been completed update the SRA. Select the SRM software and run it.

13.4: Go to C:\Windows\SysWOW64 and run odbcad32 and check which server and database the connector is directed to. You can then run the normal 64bit ODBC from Administrative Tasks and add a new connection under System DSN

13.8: As I’m not using vSphere Replication but storage replication I’ve chosen not to install vSphere Replication and clicked Next to continue

13.9: Enter the credentials to log onto the vCenter server. Click next

13.10: Click yes to accept the certificate

13.12: Leave the default and click Next

13.13: Enter the company credentials and click Next

13.15: Enter the database settings to connect to. If you don’t have a 64-bt ODBC connection specified you can enter it here using the ODBC DSN Setup. Click Next

13.16: Select the option to use the existing database and click Next

Step 14: Upgrade SRA

14.1: Download the SRA that is specific to your storage. Run the exe for the SRA software and click Ok on the default language setting

14.2: Click next on the initial screen after the unpacking of the software

14.3: Accept the EULA and click Next

Step 15: Install the SRM Plug-in

15.1: The last step is to update the plug-in. In vCenter go to Plug-ins and check the available plug-ins

15.2: Click Download and install for VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager. Click Yes to accept the certificate

Step 16: Reboot the server

Reboot the vCenter server so that you are starting with a fresh and clean environment. Also, any other plugins that have been installed may also require a reboot to complete.

Step 17: Re-do everything on the second site

Complete all the above steps on the secondary site but for SSO select multi-site as the option. This includes all the steps from Part 2, 3 & 4 that requires upgrading SSO, Web Client, Inventory Service, vCenter Server, Update Manager and SRM. I haven’t re-listed the steps but you get the idea.

Step 18: Join vCenter Servers in Linked Mode

18.1: Go to the secondary site vCenter server and go to Start-> Vmware -> vCenter Server Linked mode Configuration. Click Next on the initial dialog screen.

18.5: Enter the FQDN of the primary vCenter server and the LDAP port of 389. Click Next to continue.
